1. Performance issues
2. End of life – tech support for the distribution was about to end
3. No documentation
The infrastructure consisted of 3 servers working together through a VPN. Given
the performance issues, as well as that tech support for the operation system
was about to end, we decided to move the infrastructure to new server units. The
new units were operating based on a LTS (long-term support) OS.
The other issue was that barely had any technical documentation. We had to
review all the services and backup scripts, then analyse and optimize them.
The migration allowed us to optimize performance, we also identified and fixed
some additional issues along the way (like the configuration was not optimal or
some services were not necessary).
The end result is a more efficient and simpler infrastructure, working based on a
OS with tech support valid until 2021.
